Reverbation and Anechoic Chamber

These facilities were specially designed for acoustical testing to international ISO standards of building materials, sound producing machinery and audio equipment.

I learnt on this trip that the reverberation chamber are linked by heavy steel doors and a solid concrete floor section, they are vibration isolated so that sound can only pass from one to the other via the test wall.

The listening room was developed specifically for subjective hearing in domestic environments, all testing and mesaurements are computer controlled with testing accuracy maintained at the level required.

Visiting both these chambers was very intersting, specially the Anechoic chamber, being inside locked away from everyone else to suddenly go from a very noisy room to nothing but silence was very soothing. However the feeling of being trapped in that room was rather worrying for the first few secs but then once i let go i began to really appreciate what was being conducted in this research center.
