Workshop - Trial and Error

With one of the wind instruments that we were planning on using for our group we worked on together, now i already had an understanding for this particular idea because i wanted to do something similar in one of the earlier weeks for a performance. But i wasnt able to go forth and complete my solution.

Jenny from my group also had a similar idea that used beer bottles and the top half of a flute to create various sounds. This solution was tricky to build and the only way for us to find out if it was going to be effective was to really just get in there and make a mock model of it. Yesterday we worked in the workshop for a few hours to realize that what we had in mind wasnt very effective and that it wasnt going to give us the best of sounds because it was very tricky to jam and block the openings on each beer bottle too give us that sound that we wanted.

We're going to have to come up with another concept for jenny's instrument and in the meanwhile we're still working on our own instruments so we can compose something in time for our first demonstration with Zoe tomorrow. This Assignment is proving to be rather difficult to work with at this point because there's still no definite brief that we have to follow, In my understanding on some days its based on the actual instrument building and the performance and then sometimes I understand that we're only being marked on the actual composition.

This here was the concept that we were trying to create in the workshop. I sketched up a quick drawing to explain and understand why the concept would not work.
